This was part of the short remarks made by Amie Malabag-Hernandez, Executive Director of the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership (KN) during the official launching of this year’s Champions for Health Governance Awards at Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan. This is the second time that KN is partnering with pharmaceutical giant, MSD in the Philippines to conduct a nationwide search for local government units that have been able to implement innovative and effective public health programs in their communities. Aside from MSD, the awards are also being organized in partnership with the Jesse Robredo Foundation, Department of Health (DoH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“MSD is committed towards developing a healthy Filipino society as its concrete contribution in nation-building. If we have good governance in our local government units then we can be assured that we will have healthy and productive communities. MSD is once again proud to be a partner in this worthwhile endeavor” shared Dr. Beaver Tamesis, President and Managing Director of MSD in the Philippines.
Local government units from all over the country are encouraged to apply, there will be five winners with each of the winners receiving P 100,000 in cash and P500,000 worth of medical supplies from DoH. During the 1st Champions for Health Governance Awards held in 2013, the winners were Valenzuela City, Carmona in Cavite, Tayabas City in Quezon, Anilao in Iloilo and San Pablo in Zamboanga del Sur.
“When my husband (the late DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo) was still alive, he always believed in the ability of local government leaders to create genuine and lasting positive change in our society especially in the lives of the poor and powerless in our society, this is the reason why the Jesse Robredo Foundation has committed to also be part of this activity” said Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Gerona Robredo, Chairman of the Jesse Robredo Foundation.
Local government units who are interested to apply can still submit their applications until March 16,2015 (Monday). Visit http://healthgovernance.weebly.com to download the application form or you can call (02) 518-0021 for more information.
